Heute ging es zum Schnorcheln!
Es war ein herrlicher Ausflug!! Wir wählten einen halben Tag aus = 3h für 60 BZ $.
Und das Beste war, dass wir Unterwasserkameras dazu bekommen haben.
Wir mussten einfach nur unsere SD-Karten mitbringen.

Wir schnorchelten am "Shark Ray Alley", "The Channel" & "Coral Gardens".
Wir waren auch nur zu 3 = Sindy, ich und Claudia (=aus Brasilien).
Der erste Stopp war gleich am Shark Ray Alley. Bevor all die Touri-Boote kommen :-)
Unser Guide "Omar" verfütterte ein paar Fische und lockte somit Stachelrochen und Ammenhaie an.
"You better keep on going into the water now, before the sharks are gone" sagte Omar,
Nach kurzem innerlichem Ringen mit mir selbst, habe ich nicht mehr lange gezögert und meine Flossen, Taucherbrille und Schnorchel angelegt und ab ging es ins Wasser.
Es war schon ein komisches Gefühl mit all den Stachelrochen und Haien im Wasser zu sein.
Aber es war ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Das Beste für mich war natürlich die Unterwasserkamera.
Am Nachmittag, chillte ich ein bisschen am Hausstrand und wie ich mich da so schön entspanne, "scheisst" mir ein Vogel treffgenau auf den Oberschenkel.
Sindy und Ich haben noch ein bisschen unsere Reiseführer gewälzt und unsere Weiterreise detailierter geplant. Dann haben wir unser Ticket zum Festland gekauft und uns anschließend den Sonnenuntergang am Split angeguckt.
Omar arbeitet nebenbei in einem kleinen Restaurant und hat uns dieses schmackhaft gemacht.
"sagt einfach, dass ihr von Omar kommt, dann bekommt ihr entweder n Gratis drink oder Discount".
Wir sind mit unserer neuen Freundin Claudia dorthin und haben wirklich sehr gut gegessen.
Wer mal auf Caye Caulker ist, kann dort wirklich gut für wenig Geld essen.
(=Medly's, gegenüber der Bäckerei beim ATM) :-)
Empehlenswert ist der "armlong" Burrito. Und er hält was er verspricht.
Mit Hühnchen kostet er 10 BZ $, mit Fisch 14 BZ$.
Nach dem Essen haben wir unser Zeug zusammengepackt und ab ging es ins Bett.

Heute ging es dann aufs Festland!
Today we went to the mainland.
We took the water taxi from Caye Caulker to Belize City at 9am (BZ $ 30). After about 50min. we arrived and were allowed to leave our backpack for free in an office (lefthand before the exit).
Then we explored downtown in just about 2 hours! There is not much to see! Much poverty. But as a tip for other Belize City-tourism in the St. Johns Cathedral there are toilets those are free and clean plus they have toilet paper and soap:-)
Then we went to the bus terminal. We're going to Hopkins in southern Belize.
It's an only 15min. walk - A taxi requires 7 BZ$. You can safe this money.
At 01:15pm we took the bus to Dangriga (10BZ $).Your luggage will be stored at the rear of the bus. After about 1 1 / 2hrs we reached the capital Belmopan and there the bus had a short stop. There a lot more people hopped on, instead of getting off - standing is guaranteed for many of them.
Wir haben das Wassertaxi von caye caulker nach Belize City um 9Uhr genommen (BZ $30). Nach ca. 50Min. sind wir angekommen und durften unseren Rucksack umsonst in einem Office lassen (vor dem Ausgang links).
Dann haben wir downtown in knapp 2h erkundet! Es gibt nicht all zu viel zu sehen! Viel Armut. Aber als Tipp für andere Belize-City-Touris, bei der St. ? Church gibt es Toiletten, die umsonst und sauber sind und dazu noch Klopapier und Seife haben :-)
Danach ging es weiter zum Busterminal. Wir fahren nach Hopkins in den Süden von Belize.
Wir sind nur ca. 15Min. gelaufen!
Ein Taxi verlangt 7 BZ$. Das kann man sich locker sparen!
Um 13:15Uhr nahmen wir den Bus nach Dangriga (10BZ$).
Das Gepäck wird im hinteren Bereich des Buses gelagert. Nach ca. 1 1/2h erreichten wir die Hauptstadt Belmopan und dort hatte der Bus einen kurzen Stopp. Es stiegen weitaus mehr Leute ein, als aus... Stehplätze waren vielen garantiert :-(
Das Gepäck hat man leider nicht mehr im Auge! Jetzt heißt es Vertrauen!
So eine Busfahrt ist sehr interessant! Es werden zwischendurch Getränke und Snacks verkauft. Man fährt durch eine wunderschöne "Dschungelhafte Landschaft" --> viel Grün, Palmen, "Berge", manchmal fuhr der Bus bergauf gefühlte 2km/h. Zwischenzeitlich dachte ich, dass wir aussteigen müssen, weil wir zu schwer und zu viele Menschen an Board sind! *lach*
Nach ca. 20Min (4BZ $) erreichten wir Dangriga und nahmen ein Taxi bis Hopkins (5 BZ$/Person).
Dort angekommen haben wir ein 3-Bett-Zimmer im Drumming-center "Lebeha" bekommen (15BZ $ statt 30 BZ $/ Person ausgehandelt).
Toiletten waren mit Spülung, Dusche mit kaltem Wasser!
Dann sind wir ans Strandrestaurant gegangen und haben lecker Fisch gegessen! Das wars dann schon für den Tag!

Heute haben wir das Dorf bei Tageslicht erkundet. Und dabei eine kleine Bäckerei entdeckt. Die Lady kommt ursprünglich aus Ohio und backt hier Muffins, Brownies und Brote.
Ich habe ein Kokosnuss-Vollkornbrötchen, einen Kürbis-Pecannuss- und einen Bananen-Walnussmuffin gekauft. Sindy nahm einen Zucchini-Schokomuffin und einen Karottenmuffin gekauft!
Zum Lunch gabs ein typisches Garifuna-Lunch : Hudut (Fishsuppe mit grünem Bananenpurree!) sehr empfehlenswert!
Am Hostel gab es zurückgelassene Bücher. Ich habe mir eins mitgenommen: "The Midwives" von Chris Bohjalian.
Klingt interessant !! Und passend zum Thema, in Hopkins gab es eine Hebamme! Leider war sie nicht zu Hause- hätte mich gern mal mit ihr unterhalten!
Wir schlenderten noch schön am Strand entlang und dann ging's um 14 Uhr weiter mit dem Bus nach San Ignacio!
Von Hopkins direkt fahren nur 2 Buse zur Hauptstraße (7:00Uhr und 14Uhr), von der Hauptstraße fahren die Busse dann angeblich stündlich nach Belmopan, wo man dann umsteigen muss! :-) unser Busfahrer hat uns nicht gesagt, dass wir falsch aussteigen bzw zu früh! Da standen wir dann, wie bestellt und nicht abgeholt. 2 Frauen haben uns gesagt, dass wir falsch sind und der nächste Bus vll in 30-45Min. kommt. Das war mir zu blöd und ich versuchte es mit "Daumen raushalten". Nach ca. 10 Minuten hat es geklappt. Ein Ford Focus hat uns mitgenommen uuuuuund das Beste ist, dass die bis Belmopan gefahren sind! Besser hätte es nicht laufen können, so haben wir den Express Anschlussbus nach San Ignacio bekommen!
In San Ignacio angekommen, haben wir ein Gästehaus/Hotel Akropolis Maya gefunden.Das Doppelzimmer pro Person für eine Nacht 15BZ$. Da kann man nichts dagegen einwenden. Shared bathroom.

Today we went snorkeling!
It was a wonderful trip !! We chose just a half day = 3h for BZ $ 60.And the best part was that we got underwater cameras for free. We just had to bring our own SD cards.

We snorkeled at the "Shark Ray Alley," "The Channel" & "Coral Gardens".
We were only 3 = Sindy, me and Claudia (= A girl from Brazil).
The first stop was at Shark Ray Alley. We started there before all the tourist boats came.
Our guide "Omar" started to feed some fish and then stingrays and nurse sharks came close by.
"You better keep on going into the water now, before the sharks are gone," said Omar.
After a short wrestling with myself, I did not hesitate and took my fins, mask and snorkel and went off into the water
It was a strange feeling to be with all the stingrays and sharks in the water.
But it was an unforgettable experience. The best thing for me was -of course- the underwater camera.
In the afternoon, I chilled out at the beach right in front of our guest-house and during I just started to relax, a bird "shit" on my leg.
"Brings luck" said Sindy .... Well then nothing can go wrong on our onward journey:-)
And since the WiFi reached to the beach, there was time today for a beach Skype session with my boyfriend. <3 <3 <3
Sindy and I have read a bit our travelguides and planned our onward journey more detailed.
Then we bought our ticket to the mainland (Belize City) for the next day and then watched the sunset at "the split".
In the evening we've been to a restaurant, Omar recommended us.
"simply tell them that you come from Omar, you'll get either a free drink or a discount".
We have eaten very well. It's called "Medly's" and it's located on the opposite of the bakery next to the Bank/ATM)
Recommendable is the "armlong" Burrito. And he delivers what it promises.

The luggage can't be watched anymore! Now we have to trust the people!

You drive through a beautiful "jungle" -> green area with palm trees, "mountains", sometimes it felt like the bus drives uphill only about 2km / h. In the meantime, I thought that we need to get off, because we are too heavy and too many people on board! * laugh *
After about 20min (it cost 4BZ $) we reached Dangriga and took a taxi to Hopkins (5BZ$ / person).
Once we've been there, we catched a 3-bed room in the drumming center "Lebeha" and got it for 15BZ $ instead of 30 BZ$ / person). It was a good hostel. Toilets were flushing and shower was with cold water!
Then we went to a beach restaurant and ate a delicious fish. That's it already for the day!

Today, we have explored the village in daylight. And discovered a small bakery.
The Lady is originally from Ohio and she bakes muffins, brownies and breads.
I bought a coconut whole grain bun, a pumpkin-Pecannut-Muffin and a banana walnut muffin. Sindy took a zucchini chocolate muffin and a carrot muffin! Delicious.
For lunch, we had a typical Garifuna lunch: hudut (Fish soup with mashed green banana) ..

At the hostel were second hand books you could just take. I got one, called: "The Midwives" by Chris Bohjalian. Sounds interesting !! And keeping with the theme, in Hopkins, there was a midwife located! Unfortunately, she was not at home- I'd like to talk with her a bit about her work!We strolled along the nice beach, enjoyed the sun and then left Hopkins by 2pm by bus.
Hopkins only drives twice a day to Dangriga. (7: 00am and 2pm) from the main road, the buses departing hourly to Belmopan, where u have to switch to another bus! :-) Our bus driver did not tell us that we got off too early! As we stood kinda lonely on the stree 2 women have told us that we are wrong and the next bus comes maybe in 30-45min. I was "pissed" and tried to hitch hike. After about 10 minutes it worked. A Ford Focus has taken us aaaaaand the best part is that they also went the whole way to Belmopan! It could not have gone better, so we got the Express connecting bus to San Ignacio right away.
Once in San Ignacio we found a guest house "Acropolis Maya" for 15BZ$/per Person per night in a double room. That's a good deal. And lots of people talk Spanish again. Good for me.
