Leider war das Hostel, wo ich ursprünglich hinwollte ausgebucht und hat erst ab Dienstag wieder Zimmer frei. Also bin ich eine Straße weiter gegangen und hab eine sehr einfache Unterkunft für 5 US$/Nacht gefunden- für 1 Nacht in Ordnung! Habe dann im Hostal Posada Colonial (wo ich ursprünglich hinwollte) gleich für die nächsten 2 Nächte ein Zimmer reserviert (9 US$/Nacht für ein Einzelzimmer mit geteiltem Bad).
Am Nachmittag habe ich mir das Centro Historico/die Altstadt Quitos angeguckt, wo sich auch meine Unterkunft befindet und der spannendste Bezirk der Stadt ist. Außerdem erkundigte ich mich bei 2 Reiseagenturen nach Tagesausflügen.
Am nächsten Tag bin ich gegen 7:30Uhr vom einen Hostel ins Andere gewechselt, bin dann noch zur Wäscherei, nach nur Handwäsche, war mal wieder eine Waschmaschine nötig! Dann bin ich frühstücken gegangen und zu einem Aussichtspunkt (El Panecillo) 1km Treppen gestiegen... War ganz schön anstrengend- auch wegen der Höhenmeter! Danach bin ich mit einer Gondel (Teleférico) auf 4000 m Höhe auf die Ostseite des Vulkans Pichincha gefahren. (8,50 US$). Die Seilbahn war bei der Eröffnung 2005 die höchste Bergstation der Welt. (2008 wurde sie als solche abgelöst von der Dagu Glacier Gondolain China.) Es war zwar kalt und windig, aber man hatte eine wunderschöne Aussicht auf viele andere Vulkane und die Anden. Aber auch hier merkte ich bei einem kleinen Aufstieg die Höhenmeter. Dort haben mich 2 Holländerinnen abgesprochen, wegen Bilder machen! Auf der Gondelfahrt ins Tal saßen wir zufällig wieder zusammen in der Gondel und da die Mädels auch zum "Mitad del Mundo"...der Äquatorlinie, Mittelpunkt der Erde wollten, fuhren wir zusammen mit dem Bus hin. (0,40 US$).
Somit war ich dann am Nachmittag mit den 2 Mädels unterwegs! Wir sind nicht zum typischen Denkmal (das ist nämlich 300 Meter südlich von dem wirklichen "Nullpunkt), sondern zum Museum Intiñan. Dort bezahlte man 4 US$ Eintritt und bekam eine Führung. Sehr interessant! Um 17 Uhr kam ich wieder in der Stadt an und habe eine Tour zum Cotopaxi Vulkan für den nächsten Tag gebucht! (Der Cotopaxi ist mit 5897 m der zweithöchste Berg Ecuadors und einer der höchsten aktiven Vulkane der Erde).

On Monday, I went to Quito! Only a 2,5 hours bus Ride!
Unfortunately the hostel, which I originally wanted to go was booked this night and has just the next day vacancy. So I went one block ahead and got a very simple accommodation for US $ 5 / night- it was okay for 1 night! the next day i went straight to Hostal Posada Colonial (where I originally wanted to go) and got room for the next 2 nights (9 US $ / night for a single room with shared bath).
In the afternoon I discovered the Centro Historico / the old town of Quito (it's also where my hostel located is) it's the most exciting area of the city. In addition, I asked 2 travel agencies for daytrips.
The next day I gave my clothes to a laundry shop - after weeks of just hand wash, a washing machine was necessary! Then I went out for breakfast and to a viewpoint (El Panecillo) - I had to climb up 1km of stairs ... Was pretty strenuous- because of the altitude! After that I went with a gondola (Teleférico) at 4000 m altitude on the east side of the Pichincha volcano. (US $ 8.50). The cable car was the highest mountain station of the world at the opening in 2005. (In 2008 it was as such detached from the Dagu Glacier Gondolain China.) Up there it was cold and windy, but you had a beautiful view of many other volcanoes and the Andes. But again, I realized the altitude at a small rise. I met 2 Dutch women there - they asked me to take a picture of them. On the gondola ride down to the valley we sat together again and the girls also wanted to "Mitad del Mundo" ... the equatorial line, center of the earth - so we've been there together by bus. (US $ 0.40).
Then I got company in the afternoon :-) We did not visit the typical monument (this is 300 meters south of the real "zero point), but the museum Intiñan. There we paid US $ 4 entrance fee and got a guided tour. Very interesting! At 5 pm I came back to the city and booked a tour to the Cotopaxi volcano for the next day! (The Cotopaxi is with 5897 m the second highest mountain in Ecuador and one of the highest active volcanoes in the world).
