Uvita, Costa Rica

17.03- 20.03.2015

Die Tage waren, wie ich es mir gewünscht habe, recht entspannt! Ich war einmal bei einem Mini-Wasserfall --> echt unspektakulär und sonst habe ich viel mit meinem Buch verbracht und es endlich ausgelesen (immer noch das Hebammenbuch "Lady's Hands, Lion's Heart" von Carol Leonard) und ich war natürlich am Strand. Es ist ein traumhafter Anblick und es sind kaum Menschen hier! Ein Wirklich einsamer Strand! Und man sieht jede Menge Tiere...Affen, Krebse, verschiedenste Vögel und Schmetterlinge, Geckos, ...

Am Abend und in der Nacht hat es die letzten 2 Tage immer geregnet --> somit konnte man gut schlafen!

Ich wollte noch einen Ausflug in den Corcovado Nationalpark machen, der leider gecancelled wurde.

Ich bin 2x zum "Cola de Ballena" gelaufen. (40 Minuten am Strand entlang). Das sieht wie eine Walfisch-Flosse aus, und je nach Gezeiten prallt das Wasser aus 2Richtungen aufeinander zu! Ich muss zugeben, dass ich manchmal nicht ganz so "schlau" bin ... Ich hatte ja keine Ahnung, dass es hier auch so etwas wie Ebbe und Flut gibt- jeden Tag verschiebt es sich um ca. 30 Minuten. Wieder etwas gelernt!

Dann gab es hier ums Eck "Elvis". Er macht Kokosnussöl und verschenkt den Saft! Am letzten Tag hatte ich das Glück, dass er zu Hause war und mir eine Kokosnuss geschenkt hat! Hmm... Lecker!!

Am 19.03 hatte ich mit meiner Mama per Skype telefoniert und konnte somit kurz mit ihr und der Familie an ihrem Geburtstag "teilnehmen". Gut schaust aus, Mama! Wie mit 40 :-)

Morgen geht's weiter...ca. 18 Stunden Busfahrt bis Panama City!

Und da muss ich meine "Follower" gleich vorwarnen, denn ab da wird der Blog für die nächsten 4 Wochen etwas "Ruhen". Wir segeln nach Kolumbien und werden dabei einige Tage kein Internet haben!

March 17th - 20th 2015

The days were, as I've liked quite relaxed! I was once at a mini-waterfall -> real unspectacular and then I have spent much of the time with finish reading my book (still the midwives book "Lady's Hands, Lion's Heart" by Carol Leonard) and of course I was at the beach. It is a wonderful sight and there are hardly any people here! A Really lonely beach! And you can see a lot of animals ... monkeys, crabs, various birds and butterflies, geckos, ...

In the evening and at night it has always been raining for the last 2 days -> so you could sleep well!

I wanted to take a trip to Corcovado National Park, which was unfortunately cancelled.

I walked 2x to "Cola de Ballena". (40 mins along the beach). This looks like a whale fin, and depending on the tide the water comes from 2 sides! I must admit that sometimes I'm not quite "smart" ... I had no idea that here are also existing the tides- every day it shifts by about 30 minutes. Again I learned something!

Then there was around the corner "Elvis". He makes coconut oil and gives away the juice! On the last day I was lucky that he was at home and gave me a coconut! Hmm ... Yummy !!

At March 19th I had talked to my mom on Skype and could "participate" at her birthday. Good looking, Mom! Same as with 40:-) <3

March 20th: ... I will take a bus from Uvita - Panama City...approx. 18 hours bus ride...

So I have to warn my "followers" equal, because from there the blog will have some "rest"'for the next 4 weeks. We sail to Colombia and have some days no internet !!

San José, Puerto viejo sarapiqui, Uvita (Costa Rica)

10.03 - 12.03.2015

Die Tage habe ich damit verbracht meinen Host José zu seinen Geschäftsterminen zu begleiten und mir währenddessen die Gegend/Stadt anzuschauen. Ich war in Heredia, Alajuela, Barva, Cartago und San Jose downtown. Es war "nett" anzusehen, wenn man ein paar Stunden Aufenthalt hat! Aber man muss diese Orte nicht gesehen haben bzw. verpasst nichts :-)

Am 12.03 gab es eine Eruption vom Vulkan Turrialba in Costa Rica.

Die Stadt wurde mit Aschenregen bedeckt! Stunden später gab es einen zweiten Ausbruch!

Das war schon das zweite Mal während meines Trips, das ich das miterleben darf! Die erste Vulkaneruption die ich miterlebt habe, war in Antigua, Guatemala am 07.02.15.

Heute durfte ich mit nach Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui auf eine Ananas-Farm, die von Schweizern bewirtschaftet wird! Ich hatte ja keine Ahnung wie eine Ananas überhaupt angepflanzt wird und wächst :-) bevor wir starteten, fuhren wir zur Hacienda und gönnten uns um

10:00 Uhr morgens ein Smirnoff aus der Dose (Vodka + Lemon). Nun kann die Tour beginnen *lol*

Also...die Samen werden von Hand eingesetzt (1 Arbeiter setzt 50.000 Samen/Tag) und es dauert 1 Jahr bis die Ananas erntereif ist! Dann wird sie wieder von Hand geerntet! Ein Bagger gräbt Wasserkanäle, damit bei Regen das überschüssige Wasser ablaufen kann. Denn die Ananas benötigt nur wenig Wasser, sonst ertrinkt sie!

Von der Ernte bis zur Verpackung dauert es nur 4h - max. 1 Tag! Die Ananas wird in ein desinfektionsbad getaucht und dann von Hand ausgesucht. Ananas mit kleinen Mängeln werden Lokal verkauft und die makellosen Ananas werden verschickt! Die Ananas ist dann bereits innen reif und bereit zum Essen, außen aber grün! Dann wird sie auf 7•C gelagert und konstant dieser Temperatur ausgesetzt, dass sie nicht nachreift! Manche Länder wollen die Ananas gelb, somit wird sie mit einem bestimmten Mittel eingesprüht! Sie wird in verschiedene Länder verschickt! Nach Europa dauert es ca. 21 Tage und in die USA nur 5 Tage! 95% der Ananas kommen aus Costa Rica. Diese Ananas sind immer süß und perfekt zum Essen. Verkaufsstrategie oder Wahrheit? :-p

Und zum Reifetest: sobald die Ananas nach Ananas riecht, ist sie nicht mehr gut und frisch, weil sie "verletzt" ist und der Saft austritt!

Dann durften wir noch die Büffel angucken. Ein Baby war dabei, das verstoßen wurde und nun von Hand aufgezogen wird. Ich hatte Spaß daran es zu streicheln und es hat angefangen mich an meinen Beinen und Händen abzulecken :-) lunch haben wir dort gegessen und dann bekamen wir noch 2 Ananas geschenkt!

Am frühen Abend haben wir noch einen Stopp in einem Restaurant gemacht

- ich versuchte Tortilla Aliñada (auf Käse basierter Teig) serviert mit Sauerrahm und noch mehr Käse, Eier und Platano Madura mit Sauerrahm und Käse. "Sehr gesund"...

Am Abend durfte ich noch mit zur Band-Probe. War ganz schön! Somit habe ich den Abend ausklingen lassen!

14.03.15

Heute Früh ging es kurz auf den Markt und dann haben wir einen Freund von Jose getroffen und machten uns auf den Weg zum Vulkan. Irgendwie stand das Glück zuerst nicht ganz auf unserer Seite...der Auspuff vom Auto ist kaputt gegangen :-( ich dachte nur:"das war's wohl mit dem Ausflug." Wir fuhren zurück und wechselten ins Auto von Roberto. Der Ausflug findet also doch statt!

Und - das Glück hat mich doch nicht verlassen - wir fuhren in einem Mercedes C200. Hammer Fahrt! Ich hab wirklich ein wahnsinniges Glück einen so engagierten und hilfreichen Host gefunden zu haben. Auch seine Freunde hießen mich stets herzlichst willkommen und waren sehr bemüht, dass ich so viel wie möglich hier erleben kann! Bei einer Familie habe ich mich mit deren Kindern beschäftigt und versucht mehr Spanisch zu lernen. :-) Felipe, 2 3/4 Jahre und Rebecca, 6 Jahre halfen mir dabei :-)

Abends bin ich mit Jose in den "Lions-Club". Er ist der Vorsitzende dort und Ich durfte miterleben wie so ein monatliches Meeting ausschaut! Sehr interessant! Am Besten ist das Essen und Trinken. Felipe, Rebecca und ich haben uns während der Rede mit einem Malbuch beschäftigt! Danach sind wir (Jose und Roberto) noch in 3 Bars gegangen, u.a. mit toller Latinomusik. (Ausgehen ist fast teurer als in Deutschland :-/ ein Bier kostet min. 3,60€, kleiner Cocktail 6-10€). Mit Jose und Roberto konnte ich mich wortwörtlich über Gott und die Welt unterhalten, habe viel gelernt, erfahren und gesehen! Für die Gastfreundschaft bin ich sehr dankbar und hoffe es Ihnen in Deutschland zurückgeben zu können!

Nach einer kurzen Nacht, habe ich mein Zeug gepackt und bin mit dem Bus um 12 Uhr bei 38•C nach Uvita an die Pazifikküste von Costa Rica gefahren! Dort möchte ich die nächsten 4-5 Tage entspannt am Meer verbringen, bevor es nach Panama City geht und ich Marci treffe <3 <3 <3

Wow, ich habe das letzte Bett ergattern können im Flutterby Hostel, 3 min vom Strand! Allerdings im Treehouse (3 bett Dorm) für 18US$/Nacht. Abends gönnte ich mir eine verdammt geile Fischsuppe in Kokosnussmilch (4500 C, 8,50€).

Heute früh konnte ich ins 10 Bett-Dorm umziehen (14US$/Nacht). Dann wollte ich zum Supermarkt laufen (ca 3km) und hatte das Glück auf beiden Wegen eine Mitfahrgelegenheit zu bekommen! Jetzt geh ich an Strand! Es kühlt kaum ab hier. Nachts hat man schätzungsweise 25-28•C, Tags 38 •C + mehr....

--> leider ist die wifi Verbindung sehr lahm. Wieder nix mit Bildern, sorry!!

March 10th-12th 2015

These days I spent keeping my host José accompany during his business appointments and meanwhile check out the area / city. I was in Heredia, Alajuela, Barva, Cartago and San Jose downtown. It was "nice" to see if you have a few hours left! But you must not have seen these places or missed anything:-)

At march 12th there was an eruption from the volcano Turrialba in Costa Rica.

The city was covered with ash rain! Hours later there was a second outbreak!

This was the second time during my trip, I can witness that! The first volcanic eruption that I have witnessed, was in Antigua, Guatemala on 02/07/15.

March 13th 2015

Today I was lucky to go to Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui and visited a pineapple farm, which is managed by Swiss guys! I had no idea at all how a pineapple is planted and growing:-) before we started the tour we went to the Hacienda and treated us

at 10:00am in the morning with a Smirnoff drink (= Vodka + Lemon). Now we can start the tour * lol *

So ... the seeds are inserted by hand (1 worker can set 50,000 seeds /day) and it takes one year until the pineapple is ready to harvest! Then they will be picked by hand again! An excavator digs water pipes so the excess rain-water can drain. The pineapple just needs little water, otherwise she will drown!

From harvesting to packaging it only takes 4h - max. 1 Day! The pineapple is dipped in disinfectant and then selected by hand. Pineapple with small defects are sold to the local markets and the immaculate pineapples are going to be exported! The pineapple is then already ripe in the inside and ready to eat, but green on the outside! Then it is stored on 7 • C and constantly exposed to this temperature, they do not matures! Some countries want the pineapple yellow, so it is sprayed with a specific agent! It will be send in different countries! To Europe it takes about 21 days and in the United States only 5 days! 95% of pineapples are from Costa Rica. This pineapples are always sweet and perfect for eating. Sales strategy or the truth? :-P

And for the maturity test: once the pineapple smells like pineapple, it is no longer good and fresh because they "violated" and the juice is leaking!

Then we were allowed to watch the Buffaloes. A baby was there, which was offended by his mommy and is now being raised by hand. I found it really enjoyable to stroke it and it started to lick me on my legs and hands:-) We ate lunch there and then we got 2 pineapple for free!

In the early evening we made a stop at a restaurant: I tried tortilla Aliñada (based on cheese pastry) served with sour cream and more cheese, eggs and Platano Madura with sour cream and cheese. "Very healthy" ...

In the evening I attended a music sample of the band from my host! Was fun! I enjoyed the evening!

March 14th, 2015

This morning we went to the farmers market and then we met a friend of Jose and head to the volcano "Poas". Somehow the luck was first not quite on our side ... the muffler from the car broke down:-( I just thought.. "That's probably the trip" We went back and changed into the car of Roberto!

And - the luck has not left me - we drove a Mercedes C200. Awesome ride! I'm really lucky to found such a dedicated and helpful host. His friends always welcomed me warmly and were very concerned that I can as much as possible experience here! In a family, I have been playing around with their children and trying to learn more Spanish. :-) Felipe, 2 3/4 years and Rebecca, 6 years helped me:-)

In the evening I went with Jose in the "Lions Club". He is the president there and I was able to witness how a monthly meeting looks like! Very interesting! And they had great food and drinks. Felipe, Rebecca and I have dealt with a coloring book during the speech! Then we (Jose and Roberto) gone in 3 bars afterwards, one with great Latin music. (Partying is almost more expensive than in Germany: a beer costs minimum € 3.60, small cocktail € 6-10.). With Jose and Roberto I could talk about God and the world I literally learned a lot, experienced and seen even more! For the hospitality I am very grateful and hope to be able to return this to them in Germany!

After a short night, I packed my stuff and I took the bus by 12pm to Uvita (38 • C) to the Pacific coast of Costa Rica! There I would spend the next 4-5 days relaxing by the sea, before heading to Panama City and I meet finally my boyfriend. <3 <3 <3

March16th, 2015

Wow, I was able to grab the last bed in Flutterby hostel, 3 minutes from the beach! However, in the Treehouse (3 bed dorm) for $ 18US / night. In the evening I gave myself a damn good fish soup in coconut milk (4500 C, 8.50 €).

This morning I moved in the 10 bed dorm (14US $ / night). Then I wanted to walk to the grocery store (about 3km) and was lucky to get a ride both ways! Now I go to the beach! It cools hardly off from here. At night there is an estimated 25-28 • C and during the days 38 •C and more ....

Again ... Worse wifi - not able to upload more pictures at the moment :-(

Heute ging's in die Pueblo Blancos. Ich bin bis Catarina gefahren und habe dort einen tollen Blick über die Lagune Apoyo gehabt. Dann bin ich weiter zu Fuß in ein Mini-Dorf....aber dort gab es außer Einheimischen und "Artesanias" nichts. = Alles mögliche aus Keramik....
Sonst habe ich den Tag im Hostel ausklingen lassen.

Heute geht's weiter nach Isla ometepe!

Ich habe erfahren, dass man in dem Hostel in Granada tgl 10 min freie internationale Anrufe hat. Um 7 Uhr (14 Uhr deutsche Zeit) Habe ich meinen Papa mit einem Anruf überrascht. Danach gabs ein schnelles pancake Frühstück und dann ging's zu 3. los zum Bus.

Ich habe hier im Hostel Brian (aus den USA) wieder getroffen, den ich am Strand / Hostel in Las Peñitas kennengelernt habe. Wir gehen zusammen auf die Insel. Auch Vicky aus Deutschland leistet uns vom Hostel bis zur Fähre Gesellschaft!

Ich hab auch noch ein Mädchen kennengelernt (Regina aus D) und sie geht am Do nach Ometepe bis Montag und reist per Boot weiter nach Costa Rica! Ich habe spontan entschieden ihr Gesellschaft zu leisten und nicht nach San Juan Del Sur zu gehen!

Um 8:05 Uhr ging der Bus von Granada - Rivas

(Gepäck: 10C$, Bus: 30C$)

Danach nahmen wir in Rivas ein Taxi für teure 40C$ (Gruppenzwang und wir hatten nur noch 20 Min bis zur Abfahrt der Fähre)

10:30 Uhr, Fähre nach Moyogalpa für 70C$

--> dort angekommen haben wir Mittag gegessen, und Obst gekauft für 60C$ = 2€ für eine Papaya, eine Ananas und eine Melone. So genial!

Dann nahmen wir den Bus von Moyogalpa - El Quieno (16C$). Der Bus fährt über die Flugplatz Landebahn! So geil! Wir haben Pepe aus Spanien kennengelernt und sind zu 3. per Anhalter von El Quieno nach Playa Santo Domingo. Die Busse fahren nicht so frequent!

Dort sind wir ins einzig günstige Hostel "el bosque" : 8 US$

Zum Abendessen gab es für "nur" 6,18€ Fisch und Bier. In unserem Hostel haben wir einen Italiener kennengelernt. Luca, 39 J, Tauchlehrer. Er leistete uns Gesellschaft!

Mit Luca und Brian zum Ojo de Agua gelaufen. Ojo de Agua ist umgeben von großen Bäumen und wird von einer unterirdischen Quelle gespeist.
Beide Pools sind fast 2 Meter tief und das untere Becken ist über 40 Meter lang.

Kostet 3US$ Eintritt und man kann ein paar Stunden dort abhängen!

Danach sind wir essen gegangen (Hühnchen, Banane, Käse, Salat) und haben eine coole Bar direkt am Strand gefunden!

Bier kostet nur US 0,90 $, caipirinha 2$, happy Hour von 18-19 Uhr - man bekommt 2 Drinks zum Preis von 1.

Das wird unsere Lieblingslocation !! :-)

Und der bartender wird unser Guide für die Vulkan-Tour!

Abends kam Regina an. Ich habe sie in Granada kennengelernt und Reise mit ihr nach Costa Rica! Sie hat noch 2 Mädels aus den USA und einen Kerl aus Deutschland kennengelernt! Den Abend haben wir gemeinsam im Hostel ausklingen lassen und reisestories ausgetauscht! :-)

Frühstück im "Comedor Julia". Haferflocken mit Milch, Honig und Banane (C$70). Soooo lecker.
Dann ging es mit dem Fahrrad (7 US$/Tag) nach San Ramon - 20km (hin-und zurück) und dort 6km (Rundweg) Wanderung zu den Wasserfällen. Am Wasserfall angekommen wurden wir vom Regen überrascht. :-)
Am Abend kamen wir echt müde nach Hause und sind dann nur noch duschen und essen gegangen.
Regina und Ich haben uns wieder einen ganzen Fisch gegönnt. So delicious.
Und dann sind wir in die Bar "Exotic Island" und haben die Happy Hour von 18-19 Uhr genutzt. 2 Drinks zum Preis von einem. :-)
Um 21Uhr fiel ich müde ins Bett.

Heute war mein chill tag! Ich war nur am Strand und habe entspannt!

Meine 2. Vulkan Wanderung stand an! Vulkan Maderas. 1394m. Um 7:50uhr ging es los und insgesamt wanderten wir 7:45 h mit ca. 45min Pause! 12km durch Dschungel, Wildlife, Matsch! Wir sahen Brüllaffen, Kröten, Schmetterlinge, so wunderschön! Eins mit der Natur sein!

Danach mussten wir erstmal uns und unsere Kleidung von Matsch befreien und sind in ein mexikanisches Restaurant! Der Name war "Casa Benita". Der Besitzer hat noch eine rießen Baustelle, aber n super cooler Typ! Die letzte Runde Bier ging auf ihn und er hat uns nach Hause gefahren! :-)

<3 6 Monate <3

Um 9:40 Uhr ging der Bus nach Altagracia ($10 C).

Dort haben wir bis 14 Uhr gewartet, gechillter und gegessen. Danach sind wir 2,5km an den Hafen gelaufen. Und ich habe meine Trekkingsandalen verschenkt!

Um 19:00Uhr ging es auf die Fähre nach San Carlos (C$161 + C$30 für einen Stuhl).

Wir saßen draußen, als Tipp: Gepäck trotzdem reinstellen. Am Anfang wird der Boden von der Fähre sehr nass. Das Regencover schützte meinen Rucksack leider nicht und die Klamotten wurden feucht! Und es wird ziemlich kalt in der Nacht. Lange Hose, Jacke und Decke/Schlafsack sind empfehlenswert! Die ersten 3h wurde mir auch etwas flau im Magen durch den starken Wellengang. Faszinierend wie groß der See ist. (Lake Nicaragua) Fühlt sich eher an wie ein Meer.

Nach 12h waren wir dann in San Carlos!

Dort fanden wir eine tolle Bäckerei!

Kokos-Kuchen, Brezeln, Vollkornbrot,...Paradies!

Danach ging es zur "Migracion".

C$45 Ausreisegebühr, C$ 320 für das Boot. 90 Minuten Fahrt auf dem Fluss, umgeben von viel Natur (exotische Bäume und Pflanzen), Tieren (Adler, Schildkröte, Kolibri und anderen Vögel, Kühe, Pferde,...). Dort wurde unser Gepäck einmal "grob" auf dem Boot kontrolliert und dann nochmal an Land in Los Chiles (Costa Rica). Man darf keine frischen Früchte, Lebensmittel und Samen einführen! (Unsere frisch gekaufte Ananas aßen wir dann noch "schnell" in San Carlos und haben ein bisschen was davon verschenkt).

Dort angekommen ging es zum ATM (Geld abheben). Hier ist man fast Millionär. 1€ = 560 Colon. Dann ging es zum Bus nach San Jose mit einmal umsteigen (2400 Col = 3h Fahrt + 1860 Col 2,5h Fahrt).

Zum Essen gab es am Busterminal Reis, Hühnchen, Bohnen, Salat und irgendein kraut + 1 Cola Zero für 3100 Col.

In San José angekommen habe ich von einem Taxifahrer das Handy benutzen dürfen um meinen Host anzurufen, der mich abgeholt hat!

Bei ihm angekommen habe ich das erste Mal nach langem mit warmen Wasser duschen dürfen!! :-)

Gegen Mitternacht fiel ich müde ins Bett!

Today I visited "Pueblos Blancos". I took a bus to Catarina and at the Mirador you had an incredible view over Laguna Apoyo. After I walked in another little village. But there were only local people and they sold "Artesanias" = thing made of ceramic. The rest of the day I spent at the Hostel.

March 04th, 2015

Today I continued to Isla ometepe!

I figured out that you have in the hostel in Granada daily 10 minutes free international calls. At 7am (2pm in Germany) I surprised my dad with a phone call. Then I had a few minutes for a quick pancake breakfast and then head off to the bus. We were 3.

at the hostel I met Brian again (he's from the US), first time we met in Las Peñitas on the beach / at a hostel. We will go together to the island. Vicky from Germany is joining us from the hostel to the ferry!

I've also met a girl in Granada (Regina from Gernany) and she goes on Thursday to Isla Ometepe until Monday, then traveling by boat to Costa Rica! I spontaneously decided to keep her company and not to go to San Juan Del Sur!

8:05 am the bus went from Granada - Rivas

(Luggage: $ 10C, Bus: 30C $)

Then we took a expensive taxi for 40C $ (peer pressure and we only had 20 minutes to the scheduled departure time of the ferry)

10:30 am, ferry departs for Moyogalpa C$ 70.

-> Once there we ate lunch and bought fruits for 60C $ = 2 € for a papaya, pineapple and a a melon. So awesome!

Then we took the bus from Moyogalpa - El Quieno (16C $). The bus runs over the airfield runway! So cool! We have met Pepe from Spain and hitchhiked from El Quieno to Playa Santo Domingo. The buses run not frequently!

Here we are in the unique cheap hostel "el bosque": US $ 8

For dinner we paid only" € 6.18 for a whole fish and beer. In our hostel we met an Italian. Luca, 39 J, diving instructor. He joined us!

March 5th, 2015

Walked with Luca and Brian to the Ojo de Agua. There you will find a "natural" swimming pool.

Costs are $ 3US entry fee and you can chill a few hours there!

Then we went out to eat (chicken, banana, cheese, salad) and have found a cool bar right on the beach!

Beer costs only US $ 0.90, caipirinha $ 2 Hour happy from 6-7pm - you get 2 drinks for the price of 1.

This is our favorite location !! :-)

And the bartender is going to be our guide for the volcano tour!

In the eve Regina arrived. I met her in Granada and travel with her to Costa Rica! She met another 2 girls from the US and a guy from Germany in the ferry. This evening we sat together in the hostel and exchanged travel stories! :-)

March 06th, 2015

Breakfast in the "comedor Julia". Oatmeal with milk, honey and banana (C $ 70). Soooo delicious.

Then we took the bike (US $ 7 / day) to San Ramon - 20km (round-trip) and there a 6km (Circular) hike to the waterfalls. Arrived at the waterfall we were caught in the rain. :-)

In the evening we were really tired and then went home only to shower and eat.

Regina and I have again indulged in a whole fish. So delicious.

And then we went to the bar "Exotic Iceland" and used the Happy Hour from 6-7. 2 drinks for the price of one. :-)

At 9pm I felt into bed very tired.

My 2nd volcano hike was on! Maderas volcano. 1394m. At 7: 50uhr it went off and we walked a total of 7:45 with about 45min break! 12km through jungle, wildlife, mud! We saw howler monkeys, frogs, butterflies, so beautiful! Be at one with nature!

After that, we first had to ourselves and our clothes from mud free and are in a Mexican restaurant! The name was "Casa Benita". The owner still has a huge large construction site, but n super cool guy! The last round of beer went up to him and he drove us home! :-)

March 09th 2015

9:40 am the bus went to Altagracia ($ 10 C).

There we waited untilt 2pm, we relaxed and ate. After that we walked 2.5km to the harbor. And I have given away my trekking sandals!

At 7pm we went on the ferry to San Carlos (C $ 161 + C $ 30 for a chair).

We sat outside, a advice for you: put your luggage inside. At the beginning of the ride the bottom of the ferry is very wet. The rain cover did not protect my backpack and unfortunately the clothes got wet! And it gets pretty cold at night. Long trousers, jacket and blanket / sleeping bag are recommended! The first 3h I got a bit seasick by the strong waves. Still Fascinating how big the lake is (Lake Nicaragua) - Feels more like a sea.

After 12 hours we arrived in San Carlos!

There we found a great bakery!

Coconut cake, pretzels, whole grain bread, ... paradise!

Then we went to the "Migracion".

C $ 45 departure tax, C $ 320 for the boat. 90 minute drive to the river, surrounded by nature (exotic trees and plants), animals (eagle, turtle, Hummingbird and other birds, cows, horses, ...). There, our luggage was once controlled on the boat and then again on land in Los Chiles (Costa Rica). You are not allowed to bring fresh fruits, foods and seeds! (Our newly bought pineapple we have aten then very "fast" in San Carlos and gave a little bit to poor people).

Once in Costa Rica we went straight to the ATM (withdrawing money). Here you are almost a millionaire. 1 € = 560 Colon. Then we went to the bus to San Jose with one change (2400 Col = 3h drive + 1860 Col 2.5 hours drive).

For dinner I had at the bus terminal rice, chicken, beans, salad and some cowl+ 1 Cola Zero for 3100 Col.

Then a nice taxi driver borough me his cell and i called the host I stay with! He came to pick me up and then I was able to take a hot shower after a while!

Around midnight I was ready to go to sleep! :-)

Matagalpa-Masaya-Laguna Apoyo-Granada

27.02.15

Nach meiner Ankunft in Matagalpa bin ich mit einem Taxi (C$15) zu meinen Hosts (Lucy und Felix, 2 Freiwillige aus Deutschland, die hier 9 Monate verbringen) gefahren. Dann bin ich auch ziemlich bald los gegangen zu einer kleinen Wanderung auf den Cerro Apante.

1,5 h Wanderung zum Aussichtspunkt in mitten der Einsamkeit der Natur :-) und ca 1h zurück.

Oben angekommen, wollte ich in Ruhe mein Lunch essen. Aber dort kam nach ca.10 Minuten eine Gruppe Jugendlicher (schätzungsweise 12-14 jahre)an - es war vorbei mit der Ruhe! Dann ging ich weiter und habe aber den Rückweg nicht mehr ganz gefunden und kam dann durch irgendein Dorf...die haben dort wahrscheinlich noch nie eine Touristin gesehen! Als die mich gesichtet hatten, verschwanden alle in ihre Häuser ??!!

3 "doofe" Hunde haben mich angebellt und als ich mit viel Abstand und Angst an denen vorbei bin, kamen sie und haben mich angeknurrt und ins Bein gezwickt. Gott sei Dank kam eine Frau und hat (Entschuldigung an alle Hundeliebhaber) Steine nach denen geworfen, dass sie mich in Ruhe lassen! Ich hab mich 1000 mal bedankt und war so froh, dass diese Frau kam. Ich hatte echt Angst! Danach bin ich noch durch Matagalpa geschlendert! Stadt angeguckt! Viel gab es nicht zu sehen! Ich hab einen Kopfsalat im Supermarkt entdeckt. (C$6 = 0,20€). Hab noch Tomaten und eine Gurke mitgenommen und bin dann nach "Hause". Erstmal geduscht, dann meine Weiterreise mit Unterkünften und Bussen organisiert. Matagalpa ist eher unturistisch und es fahren nicht viele Busse am Tag zu den touristischen Destinationen... Abends hab ich mich noch mit Lucy und Felix ausgetauscht und bin dann auch schon gegen 21:30Uhr müde ins Bett gefallen!

28.02.15

Nach dem Aufstehen bin ich ca. 40 Minuten zum Busterminal gelaufen.

Um 9:00 Uhr nahm ich den Bus von Matagalpa nach Tipitapa (C$51), vorbei an zahlreichen Kaffeeplantagen. Beeindruckende Mengen. Um 11:30 Uhr kam ich an und konnte gleich in den Verbindungsbus nach Masaya springen (C$10).

12:30 Uhr Ankunft in Masaya ,

13:00 - 15:00 Uhr habe ich samt meinem Gepäck "sightseeing" betrieben. Vom Busterminal läuft man 30 Min. Zum Malecon (Strandpromenade) und hat einen Schönen Blick auf die Lagune. Dann gibt es nur noch den Touri Markt- wer Souvenirs braucht!

Nachdem ich heut nur eine Mango zum Frühstück hatte, war ich echt ausgehungert und hab um 15 Uhr endlich gegessen. Was gab es? Typisches leckeres Essen: Reis, Bohnen, Schweinefleisch, gebratene Banane und Salat für C$70.

Und um 16 Uhr ging es dann mit dem einzigsten Bus am Tag, der direkt an die Lagune runter fährt (C$13). Dort habe ich im "Peace Project Hostel" ein 4-Bett Dorm für mich alleine bekommen! 8US$ / Nacht. Herrlich! Und das Geld geht zu Gunsten an Schulbildung und arme Kinder. Also tu ich was gutes!! :-)

Heute hab ich Müsli gegessen. Endlich mal wieder was anderes als Reis, Bohnen, Eier,... Dann ne Runde geskyped, man muss ja die gute Wifi Verbindung nutzen :-)

Dann bin ich mit dem kayak in der Lagune gepaddelt. Es war sehr windig, nicht so ganz einfach mit dem zurückkommen! Dann chillaxte ich am Strand. Dort hab ich den 10 jährigen Christofer und seinen Bruder Carlos kennengelernt, der mit seiner grossen Schwester (~30j) und Familie/Freunde am Strand war...wir haben uns fast 2,5h auf Spanisch unterhalten...mal mehr und mal weniger gut :-p und ich habe sie mit dem Kayak fahren lassen. Das war ein Highlight für die Kids...weil normalerweise kostet es 10$ / Stunde und in meinem Hostel sind die Kayaks für Gäste inklusive!

Es war Sonntag, da kommen alle Einheimischen zur Lagune...irgendwann war es mir zu voll/laut und ich hab mich ins Hostel auf eine Hängematte zurückgezogen!

Frühstück hier ist empfehlenswert, zum Abendessen sollte man in ein Restaurant in der Umgebung gehen. Da hat man mehr Auswahl.

Wir haben hier einige "Howler"-Affen (Brüllaffen) direkt am"Hausbaum". Total cool.

Mir gefällt es echt super gut hier!! Man ist total im Einklang mit der Natur! Vögel, Eichhörnchen, Affen...und eine wundervolle ekelhafte, rießige, behaarte Spinne saß direkt vor der Türe! Ich dachte ich sterbe, bin ausgeflippt! Gott sei Dank war es draußen vor der Türe und ich hatte genügend Fluchtmöglichkeiten :-p

Später habe ich mir ein Buch aus der Bibliothek genommen! Magische Anziehungskraft... Mir fiel quadi ein Buch in die Hände, das ich lesen muss!

Das Buch heißt: "Lady's Hands, Lion's Heart" von Carol Leonard!

Mein 2. Hebammenbuch.... Schicksal?! :-)

02.03.15

Heute habe ich mir nochmal ein Müsli gegönnt und relaxte dann in der Hängematte mit meinem Buch.

Um 11:20 Uhr kommt der Bus nach Granada! (C$13 bis zur Intersection nach Masaya und dort wechselt man in den Bus nach Granada für C$ 8). Dort angekommen, bin ich ins Hostel Oasis und habe ein Bett im Dorm bekommen (9 US $ mit Pancakes, Wasser, Tee und Kaffee - so viel man will), es hat einen Swimmingpool, Hängematten und natürlich viele Touristen....
Ich habe Granada erkundet, leider ist die Festung wegen Bauarbeiten geschlossen. Und dann habe ich Sindy hier wieder getroffen, die zur Zeit auch in Granada ist.
Das war's auch schon für heute.

February 27th 2015
After my arrival in Matagalpa I took a taxi (C $ 15) to my hosts place (Lucy and Felix, 2 volunteers from Germany who spend nine months here). Then I've went pretty soon for a short hike to Cerro Apante. It was a 1.5 hours hike to the lookout point in the middle of the solitude of nature :-) and about 1 hour hike to return.
Once at the top, I wanted to eat my lunch in peace. But after about 10 minutes, there came a group of young people (estimated at 12-14 years) - so no peaceful rest anymore! Then I went on and did not quite found the way back and then walked by some little village ... the people there probably had never seen a tourist! As they had spotted me, all disappeared into their homes ?? !!
3 "stupid" dogs bark at me and when I'm passing on those with a lot of distance and fear, they came and growled at me and tweaked me in the leg. Thank God, a woman came and has thrown with stones to the dogs, so they let go (with apologies to all dog lovers, but i was so thankful she helped me - i really was scared.) After that, I'm strolled through Matagalpa! There was not much to see! I've discovered in a supermarket lettuce. (C $ 6 = 0.20 €). Decided to go for a fresh salad this evening and picked up tomatoes and a cucumber and then I went back "home". First, showered, then organized my journey with lodging and buses. Matagalpa is a non touristic place and not many buses goes to the tourist destinations ... In the evening I talked to Lucy and Felix , exchanged stories and then I fallen into bed very tired around 9:30pm!

February 28th 2015
After getting up, I walked about 40 minutes to the bus terminal.
At 9:00am I took the bus from Matagalpa to Tipitapa (C$ 51), passed numerous coffee plantations. Impressive amounts. At 11:30am I arrived and was able to jump into the connecting bus to Masaya (C$ 10). at 12:30pm I arrived in Masaya.
I discovered the "City" with all of my luggage. From the bus station you walk like 30 min. to the Malecon (beach boardwalk) and gives you a beautiful view of the lagoon Masaya. Then there is only the tourist market for those who needs souvenirs!
Today I only had a mango for breakfast, I was really hungry and have finally eaten at 3pm. What did I eat? Typical delicious food: rice, beans, pork, fried banana and salad for C$ 70.
And at 4pm I took the one and only bus that goes directly down to the lagoon once a day (C$ 13). There I got a dorm at the "Peace Project Hostel" . It's a 4 bed dorm and I have it all bymyself for 8US $ / night. Gorgeous! And the money is donated to the education of poor children. So I do something good !! :-)

March 01st, 2015
Today I ate cereals. Finally something other than rice, beans, eggs, ... Then I skyped with my bf, I had to use the good Wifi connection:-)
Then I paddled with the kayak in the lagoon. It was very windy, not so easy to come back with that! Then I relaxed on the beach. There I met the 10-year-old Christofer and his 19 yo brother Carlos, who has been with their big sister (~ 30 yo) and their family / friends at the beach ... we almost talked about 2.5 hours in Spanish ... sometimes more and sometimes less good:-p and I let thm use the kayak. That was a highlight for the kids ... because normally it costs $ 10 / hour and in my hostel kayaks were included for guests! It was Sunday, so all the locals came to the lagoon ... at some point it was too crowded / noisy and I got back to the hostel and hang out in the hammock!
Breakfast here is recommended. But for dinner, you should go to a restaurant in the area. Since you have more choices. We have some "Howler" monkeys directly at the "House Tree". Totally cool. I really like it a lot here !! It is totally in tune with nature! Birds, squirrels, monkeys ... and a wonderful disgusting, huge, hairy spider sitting right outside the door! I thought I'm going to die, I'm freaking out! Thank God it was outside the door and I had plenty ways to escape.
Later I took a book from the library! The magical attraction ... A book felt right in my hands, I have to read it!
The book is called "Lady's Hands, Lion's Heart" by Carol Leonard! It's a true midwifery story.

March 02nd 2015
Today I treat myself with a bowl of cereal and then relaxed in the hammock with my book.
At 11:20am the bus to Granada came! (C$ 13, you take it to the intersection to Masaya and there you go into the bus to Granada for C$ 8). Once there, I went to Oasis hostel and got a bed in the dorm (US $ 9 with pancakes, water, tea and coffee - as much as you want), it has a swimming pool, hammocks and of course many tourists ....I have explored Granada, unfortunately, the fort is closed due to construction. And then I met Sindy here again, which is currently in Granada.
